For pass two weeks, bait casted down at the jetty had not been lasting. It was finished up quickly by crabs and many other seabed creatures.

But last night thing had change. It was quite lasting from the evening with my first cast. Tide full and turn downward with a strong current flow. But the current start to slow down around 2300hrs. I look up my rod and saw it was shaking up and down. I went over to strike hard. Yes..fish ON.

Slowly wind back and up come a good size golden snapper 735g when weigh. It took my fresh herring bait.

Date 10-07-2024. Time: 2200 hrs.

Caught this Palm size Fingermark Snapper when the tide was on the way up. Bait is yellow tail scad (kunning)

Date : 11-07-2024. Time : 2350hrs

Land this Big Eye G.T with a fresh night herring as bait. It took the bait and cause my reel to screech. Tide was on the way up and current flow was smooth.

Barracuda was caught when tide is on the way down. It took the first bait i cast out and slack the line.

Fingermark Snapper was caught when the tide is about to full. I saw my rod tip rattle and decide to check it.

Date: 12-06-2024. Time: 2010 hrs. Bait: Fresh herring.

It almost end of downtide. Current flow had stop. I went to change bait that i notice a little heavy at the end of the line. Slowly wind back and a pink fingermark snapper surface. Use the rod to haul it up. Infact awhile earlier, i had notice my line a bit slack and i did tighten it but found no tip rattle.

Date:05-06-2024. Time: 1905 hrs. Rod: Ugly Stick 9ft. Reel: LG 8000. Bait: Live Herring

Today went early. Jig enough fresh bait. Tide is on the way up. The sun haven’t set. I decide to try a surface live bait.

Lucky enough, around 1905 hrs, the sky is still bright, a wolf herring took the bait. It rattle my rod and make two acrobatic jump on the water surface. I wind back and use the rod to haul it up.

Went there a bit late as the sky don’t look good on the early evening. Afraid that i may not able to get fresh bait when i reach there so I grab two frozen tambans from freezer for the first cast.

First cast out and i go jig for fresh bait. Luckily i manage to get enough fresh bait for the night. When sky start to turn dark, i notice my rod tip rattle. First i thought it was people knock on the jetty railing that cause the rod to shake. But when the line start to slack, i grab the rod and strike. Wind back line and a palm size fingermark snapper surface up. I used the rod to haul it up.

Friend Jumbo Li come to join me around 2230 hrs. He first cast out with a green eye squid strip bait landed a 1.2kg grouper. I use my squid net to scoop it up for him.

As usual go for a short night trip. Tide was on the way up. Current flow was smooth. Bait was lasting. All this elements pointed to a “Great Chance”.

True enough, around 1945hrs my first rod tip rattle. I strike and a long murray eel surface. I bring it up, unhook and released it back. Immediately my second rod bend and line running out. I quickly pickup and strike. The fish didn’t struggle much at first. It follow me wind back. But when come infront of jetty, it fought back. Dive deep down pulling my line along. At one stage, it even go againt the current flow. I had to follow to keep up the pressure. It did this few times before i able to slowly pump it up to water surface. As i am fishing alone and no any known angler around to help, i keep the fish on the water surface to weaken it down. After a minute or so, i ask a viewer there to help hold my rod so that i able to go and grab my gaff. When up on the jetty, it is a 15kg Cow Tail Ray.

Take a short drive holiday and fishing to desaru. Reach here yesterday on a bad weather. Last night try out the beach near the resort only landed a flower crab.

This morning get up early to catch the morning tide full at 10.35hrs. Drove about 10km away to the Batu layer beach as the water there is deeper. Caught this blue spotted ray around 0920hrs before the tide full.

Tide was on the way up. Current flow is smooth beside a strong southern wind blowing on the water surface causing the water to a bit choppy. Bait was lasting at this period.

At 1955 hrs, while I was keeping the eye on the squid light, Deliang Yee who was there with me shouted say my rod rattle..I took the rod and strike..initially feel nothing..but after some winding back, i can feel the jerking at the end of the line. Snapper…I surface it and use the rod to lift it up. Palm size..just nice for a good meal.

Date:09-05-2024. Time: 2100 hrs to 2230 hrs

Suppose to go for a relax trip but end up fighting a monster ray. Tide was on the way up when Deliang Yee cast out his squid bait.

Around 9pm, his reel alarm scream. He grab the rod and strike hard. Fish On ! The fish start out a good long run toward the deeper water stripping half the spool line. It manage to stop and we started gaining line back. The tug of war began and it lasted for one and half hours which both of us took turn to fight. I manage to surface it and Deliang Yee hook the first gaff in. I pass the rod to Chin Wey and i hook in the second gaff. Four of us manage to pull it up over the jetty railing after few try and halt. Estimate the weigh is between 70 to 80kg.
