Honeycomb Whip Tail Ray

Date:09-05-2024. Time: 2100 hrs to 2230 hrs

Suppose to go for a relax trip but end up fighting a monster ray. Tide was on the way up when Deliang Yee cast out his squid bait.

Around 9pm, his reel alarm scream. He grab the rod and strike hard. Fish On ! The fish start out a good long run toward the deeper water stripping half the spool line. It manage to stop and we started gaining line back. The tug of war began and it lasted for one and half hours which both of us took turn to fight. I manage to surface it and Deliang Yee hook the first gaff in. I pass the rod to Chin Wey and i hook in the second gaff. Four of us manage to pull it up over the jetty railing after few try and halt. Estimate the weigh is between 70 to 80kg.

White Spotted Stingray

Date: 08-05-2024. Time: 1835 hrs. Rod: Ugly Stick 9 ft. Reel: Reelsking 10000. Rig: Long Snood Bottom Feeder. Bait: Fresh Baby Herring.

Tide was about to turn up when I reach there. Setup tackles and jig for fresh bait. This few days only baby herring around so no other choices. Cast out the fresh bait and wait as now tide had turn up with very smooth current flow.

Around 1835 hrs, while I was taking my packet dinner, I saw my Ugly stick rod bend and my reel start to scream with line running out fast. Put my dinner aside and grab the rod to strike. Fish On !..It start to strip out my line..I had to tighten the drag to stop it for going to far and deep. After the initial run, it stop and turn around. I gain back my line quickly and follow by few tug of war before i able to bring it near jetty and surface up. Brown stingray..after almost three years of waiting.(last caught June 2021).j As i was solo fishing today, i play the fish until it weaken before i hand over the rod to a cyclist who offer to help. Quickly, i grab my rope gaff and bring it up. 6.5kg

Threadfin

Date: 05-05-2024. Time : 1915 hrs. Rod: Penn Slammer 9ft. Reel: CTS 12000. Rig: Long Snood Bottom Feeder. Bait: Fresh Herring

Went for a night trip. Tide was on the way up. Current flow was smooth. Manage to jig some fresh bait and cast down. Bait was lasting at this period. Friends Deliang Yee join me awhile later.

Around 1915 hrs, I saw my rod tip rattle and the main line slack. I grab the rod and pump hard. Hookup! The fish make a acrobatic jump on the water surface far out. I slowly wind back my line. When it near the jetty, i saw it was a Threadfin. I ask Deliang Yee to grab my sotong net and scoop it up.

Golden Eel

Date: 05-04-2024. Time: 2245 hrs.

Friends Bernard Tan caught this big golden eel around 4kg when the tide turning down on our last night shore trip. A fingermark snapper, a gulama and a marine cat fish also landed.

Good size fingermark snapper

Date: 31-03-2024. Rod: Century Tip Tonado 13ft. Reel: Shimano Torium 20. Rig: Long Snood Bottom Feeder. Bait: Fresh Squid.

Beezz Ong got the fish he is waiting for in the early morning. A good size 1.8kg Fingermark Snapper took his fresh squid bait and slacken the line just after he cast down. Upon seeing, he quickly strike the rod and wind back the line. When the fish surface up, I use my squid net to scoop it up.

Shovelnose Shark

Date: 25-02-2024. Time: 2100 hrs. Rod: Penn Powergraph Surf 10 ft. Reel: Reelsking 10000. Rig: Long snood bottom feeder. Bait: Fresh Herring(Tamban)

Go in the late afternoon to jig some fresh bait. Cast out two rods on bottom feeder rig. Tide turn up around 7pm plus. Bait was lasting tonight.

Around 9pm plus, current start to flow faster. I saw my rod tip rattlle. I pickup the rod and at the same time i saw a angler winding back his line. Both our line had cross over. We entangle it and when i pump the rod, my reel start to scream. Oh..fish on..the fish start to take out line. I tighten my reel drag to put pressure on it. Manage to stop it run and i start wind back some line. It make several run before i able to take control. By now i know it is a shovelnose shark. Friends start to prepare the gaff. About 20 minutes after hookup, i able to surface it. Friend Simon Yeo gaff it and pull it up. We make some quick photos and the fish was released back to the water. It swim off immediately.

Queen fish and Wolf Herring

Date :31-01-2024.  Time: 19.00 hrs

Tide was on the way down and current flow is strong. As it still have day light left, I put on the slide down rig with live bait. It result with a 2kg queen fish and a 450g Wolf herring on two different rods within half n hour. The queenie i had to get my friend help to use the landing net to haul it up. The wolf herring i only use my rod to swing it up.

First fish this year

Date: 27-01-2024. Time:1830hrs. Rig: Slide down rig with live herring.

Got this meat fish(locally called) in the late evening when the downtide is almost ended. This fish will take surface or bottom feeder bait on day or night. The body is full of meat that why local name it. Can be fried, steam or add others flavors.

Wet wet night bite

Date 28/12/23.  Time: 1700 – 0100hrs

Friends Bernard wanted to fish so I accompany him along on a wet night. Early of the night was dry after the afternoon down pour. That is where i caught this baby cobia when the tide start turn up

Bernard got the second fish a 500g marine cat fish. After that the sky start to drizzle follow by a cluster rain coming from the South China sea. My reel alarm went off in the middle of the rain and it was Bernard who notice it while i was hiding under the canvas. He strike it hard before passing the rod to me. Wind back and it was a 2kg Golden cat fish.

I got my third fish when i reel back my line when the rain had a brief stop. A 500g Marine cat fish. All fishes had been released back.

Bernard Tan caught this 3kg Brown stingray on a two hooks apollo rig with defrost squid as bait.

Ah Beeze landed this 4kg golden catfish on a long snood bottom feeder rig with defrost sotong as bait.
