Marine Cat Fish

Date: 25-09-2023. Time:2045 hrs. Rod: Penn Slammer 10.6ft. Reel: Shimano Torium 20. Rig: Long Snood Bottom Feeder. Bait: Fresh Herring.

Tida was on the way down. Current flow is strong. Bait is lasting at this moment.

I just change a new herring bait and cast out and about to walk away. Suddenly my reel scream. Pickup the rod and gave a hard strike. Yes…hard pulling there. Its struggle hard with the help of the strong current. Slowly I gain control and wind it back. But before surface up, it take a last dive downward. I had to thumb the spool to avoid it go too deep. I pump it up and a big Marine Cat fish appear on the water. It was too heavy to lift it up by the rod so I got my friend to grab hold of my leader and pull it up. It hit the scale at 4.2kg.

Emperor fish

He pull it up and the fish weigh 665g.

1.8kg Golden Snapper

Date:31-08-2023. Time: 2355 hrs. Rod: Penn Slammer 9ft. Reel: Fixed spool CTS 12000. Rig: Long Snood live bait rig. Bait: Live Selar pan 6 inches.

As usual go on a night trip before sunset. Manage to get few live bait before sky turn dark. Bait was lasting tonight. Nothing happen until water was about to full and current start turning down. I happen to jig a big selar-pan under my lamp and keep it alive. Decide its time to cast down as now the bait that casted down start to disappear very soon.

Around 1155hrs, friend tell me the rod start to wobble. I took up and strike hard. Fish ON..Its manage to strip some line out before come to a snag. After awhile i manage to got it free and wind back. Surface up a big snapper. Got my friend to get my landing net down to the water and i pull it into the net. Lifted it up and it weigh 1.8kg.

Barracuda

Date:10-08-2023. Time:2330hrs. Rod: 9.6ft Ugly Stik. Reel: CTS 12000. Rig: Alo live bait. Bait: Live 5 inches Selar-pan

Went before sunset and manage to get few live herring as bait. Casted out but nothing caught. Tide full and turn down. Half way down got a hard pull on the rod alerted to me by a friend but didn’t hookup. The few live bait had finish by now and i had to switch back to dead one.

Not satisfy, i try jigging under my squid lamp and caught one big selar-pan. Quickly casted out. Around 2330hrs, while i was searching for squid, i heard my reel sounded. Grab hold the rod and strike hard…the fish go airbone..it jump few times before i bring it near jetty. Barracuda…i got my friend to get my landing net and lower into the water surface. I use the rod to steer the fish into it and my friend pull it up.

Smaller by the same tackle set.

Date:07-08-2023. Time: 2200hrs Rig: Alo live bait rig. Bait: Live yellow strip scad(kunning)

My self make Urgly stick rod strike again. Tide was about to turn up. My friend there heard got reel alarm screech sound. But when we check the two sets of tackle don’t have any movement so we didn’t take any action.

It only after about fifteen minutes later i wanted to check the bait that i feel some weight at the end of the line. I can feel some struggling that i realise i had a hookup. Slowly winding back the line, a fingermark snapper surface up on the water. I get my friend to hold the rod while i grab my sotong net to scoop it up. 475g it weigh on the scale. Half the size of the one i caught the night before.
