Date: 27-01-2012      Time: 1pm     Rod: Shoreangler Big Game 10.2ft      Reel: Shimano Torium 20      Line: 30lbs braided with 50lbs mono leader     Rig: Cable car      Bait: Live herring

Still on my lunar new year holiday….Went down around 10am when the tide was on the way up. Casted out two rods on bottom feeder and cable car rig. Manage to get some live tamban although quite rare today.

Around 1pm as the tide was about to full…after changing my bottom bait, I slid down my cable car rig….this garfish was nearby and it go for the grab n run….I strike immediately and it was ON. It make several acrobatic jump on the water surface before I able to wind it in. I use my rod to lift it up as the water was high.

After unhook and photo taking, the fish was given to a fellow who wanted it.

But after winding awhile….I know I had a different fish at the end of the line…It just fight differently…..When surface…it was a small conger eel around one kilo plus….Wow….yesterday night I was just telling my buddy that the conger eel should be coming soon around this time….and tonight I already got it…haha….Laughing

Tide was on the way up. Bait was quite lasting at this stage..Suddenly…there was a water splash in the sea….and AH ONG rod the line gone slack…LK was the first to spot it….He pickup the rod, wind back the loose line and strike…Yes…a full tension on the line and the rod bend….The fish was swimming inward….He passes the rod back to AH ONG the owner….Very fast the fish surface….From far I can see a wide body fish coming in….It is definitely a good fish and not a marine catfish which is very commonly landed at the jetty on this few weeks. Without hesitation…I use AH ONG squid net to scoop it up. Wow… a fat silver barramundi was on the floor….It hit the scale at 5.5kg. It also set a new mark on barramundi landed there this year.

The Down tide is about to end. The current already stop flowing…We had been fishing since the early night and there is no action…..Earlier ago….POH….one of my buddy was grumbling water was so nice and why not even a barracuda come to take our bait….I answer him that the barracuda here had been badly pamper and if no fresh squid as bait there dont eat….

As now is already near to the year end….squid is quite rare now…..I only manage to caught a few and all had been use as bait….I still need to caught one more for Ah AN to use. Luckily not long after I manage to get one. I pass it to AN and he change it and casted out.

Just a few minute later….POH heard a fish jumping out of water and as he was standing near AN rod. He instantly pickup the rod and do a hard strike…..YES ON….AN come on and take over the rod….The fish swim inward…..he easily wind back….It surface….. BARRACUDA….yes….it take fresh squid….HONG grab hold of the leader and haul it up….I place my squid net below the fish as safty net…A near to 2kg fish landed..

No King But Queen

Date: 12-11-2011      Time: 0930am      Rod: Shoreangler BigGame 10.2ft.      Reel: Daiwa Saltist 40     Line: 30lbs braided with 50lbs mono leader       Rig: Cable Car       Bait: Live Herring.

Last night attend a dinner so never go fishing. Me long time never do day fishing as I mostly catching squid at night. So this morning headed down to the jetty.

Casted two rods out on bottom feeder and added a cable car rig with live bait on one of the rod. I switch the cable car rig to the other rod when changing the bottom bait. Like that all the while I will had a cable car rig in the water. It maximise my chance of hitting a fish.

Yes…it come at around 9.30am….My saltist reel alarm went screaming…..I was standing nearby as I already got enough tamban. I strike and hook on. The fish make a acrobatic jump on the water surface. It dive down deep and up again one more jump. It move to my right….I follow and cross over my other rod….It then swim inward. I wind fast and bring it to surface….Yusof who was there bring his rope gaff and bring it up.

A nice queenie laying on the jetty floor….It weigh 3kg….Twenty minute later…after photo taking…..I fillet it as the sky is turning dark…Will be back looking for the King as last week someone had hookup one but lost it when the king when under the jetty.

Ah An landed this 2kg Threadfin during the fast flowing downtide. It took the bait and just cause a light screech on the reel. The fish was wash down by the strong current flow. It only when the rod tip shake that he decided to strike. He wind it in and when I saw it was a threadfin…I took my squid net and scoop it up.

Earlier in the night….I caught a 2kg Big mouth catfish….I was away scooping squid when the fish strike….It was Ah An who wind in for me. This time I was using a Penn Powergraph surf fixed spool rod pair with a Silstar AX 80 spinning reel.

Threadfin from the beach

Date: 03-07-2011     Time: 10am to 2pm

Fishing at the jetty….the bait was not lasting….so today with a good running tide….decided to join friends for a go at the beach…

As the full tide was around 1.30pm…..we decide to start around 10am….LK and An both of them early in the morning went to the jetty to get fresh tamban for bait.

We setup and casted out…total there is 9 rods….Tide is already mid way up…..JW was the first to hit….He saw his rod rattle and he strike…..without much effort….a nice 1kg threadfin was wind in….

With this…it boosted our moral….everbody changing bait….more often….An hour later…..suddenly LK rod bent and his reel screech…..He rush to strike and the fish jump up from the water surface….WOW….threadfin again….with the aid of the wave….he slight in the fish…..It hit the scale at 1.8kg….

Fantastic….we never dream of getting this at the beach….But….it happen…….We pack off around 2pm when the tide turn down.
