K caught this stingray after some hard pump n puff.. His reel alarm went off when the tide was on the way up. Although there was a strong southern wind blowing….the current was smooth. The fish took the bait just after he had casted out. I gaff it up and it was a male ray.

Ah Hong fish almost every saturday night….but for the past one over year….he caught nothing…Fish that take his bait always ended up line snap or missed hook. It happened so many times that we had to label him with white foot base(bad luck). Some even ban him for striking their rod when a fish take the bait.
We know he is very desprate to hookup one to prove us wrong..haha…but it happen again n again until he himself lost confident….It show sign last night….
I went there early before they came. I manage to jig some tamban as bait before the sky turn dark. Ah An come first before Hong. Tide was on the way down but current already slow down. We setup squid lamp to catch squid but was very rare.
It was around 8.20pm when the down tide was about end…We were chating when his reel alarm screech….He was just next to it and strike it….Yes…fish on…Me n An start to wind back our line to avoid entangle….Then Hong say the fish swim inward….I was fixing up the gaff when I can see he is worried….worried that the samething will happen again n loose the fish…So he ask me to take over….
I took over the rod and play the fish…leaving the fixing of gaff to ah An…I also order both of them to bring up our two squid lamps…reason is fishes are afraid of bright light….they will fight all out when U want to bring them to surface….
Without the squid lamp….I easily bring it to surface….As the water was low….It is not easy to gaff it as below the jetty is very dark….Ah An try few time but fail….Hong saw it and come over to hold the rod from me and I take over the gaffing job….I also missed a few gaff before I got it. It weigh 4.2kg after landed….
Ah Hong was so relief after this as he had finally break that fat zero and no more a white foot base…

It already 7pm….the sky started to turn dark….the tide is turning up…but this queenfish take his last bite….Zzzzzzz….Ah Lai satiga reel go screaching….He was there just beside it….he strike….he fought…he pump the rod….the fish make a jump on the water surface…..I saw it and walk over as I fish on the other coner…The fish come near to the jetty….but the gaff was not ready…..Ah Lai play the fish….he let it run around….
Ah An has fixed up the gaff….but he say its not long enough as the water was low….I took over it….I stand on the jetty railing….I lower it down…haha…just manage to touch the water….Ok la….I told Ah Lai to bring the fish nearer…I gaff it up…..3.2kg is the weight.

Ah Lai caught this 2.5kg Fingermark Snapper just five minute after XF G.T.(above) It is counted a rare catch at the jetty with it size. Even if you take a boat out at changi sea….you hardly able to catch one snapper above 2kg. See picture below….
Note: I also caught a 400g flat head around 11pm the same night.

Tide was about to full…..Current is still running strong….We were talking about earlier my hard fought battle to a one way train. A huge stingray just manage to strip off my shimano torium 20 reel two hundreds meter of mono and braided line and break free. It just keep going with the help of the strong current without any turning back. I lost it after nearly half n hour of tight drag fighting. Below is the video showing ah boi trying to help and the fish keep running. I only able to pump when the fish stop briefly..Sound are affected by the strong wind that night.

Ah Boi went to change his bait….He feel the weight at the end of the line…but he thought tangle my line….so both of us wind back together..Then…..he feel some struggle…..end up a big red snapper below….I use my hand to grab hold of his leader and pull it up….2.5kg is the weight…..Very rare at jetty.

Caught this big mouth catfish last night. I happen to looking at my line when it dancing up n down…Quickly I went to strike the rod….The fish didn’t fight back but was heavy at the end of the line….Easily wind back and I lift it up with my hand by grabbing to my leader. About 1.5kg in weight.

Tide was coming up…current was fast but smooth. I was catching squid on the right side while Weemin were fishing on the left side.
Around 10pm…Weemin reel alarm sounded…I see Rudi(another angler there) rush to the rod pickup n strike…The penn slammer rod make a fully bend…WOW…that is big….
The fish never fight much…but instead stay threading in the water along with the current….Rudi make a few hard pump on the rod to lift it higher..
The fish move along with the current…by now it already on the mid part of the T junction…Wee min come along with his fixed gaff..but the fish still refuse to surface….He took over the rod…With fresh energy…he manage to pump it higher but on a very slow pace…
After awhile…the fish manage to surface up about 20 meter away…Wow…my first sight it was a big thick back ray…It then dive down again…pulling line out on a faster pace….Weemin tired out and Rudi had to takeover again….After sometime of tug of war…it surface second time now at the right corner….but very fast it sink down again….Then it was on a slow pace of winding back…with Rudi n Weemin changing hand on the rod another one or two time…
Finally it was Weemin who manage to surface it up….I take the opportunity to gaff it….Yes…first gaff in….It struggle a little…but my gaff was fully in control…I pull it nearer and Convert take Weemin gaff to gaff it…Two gaff in…but I want another gaff so that to spread out the weight when pulling up. Rudi come with a rope gaff but it was not sharp enough so it fail…I try to get another gaff while Convert n Rudi try to pull it up….haha..but both fail as it was too heavy for two of them…They call for help so I and Weemin went to help…
We manage to pull it up….Wow…a whopping papa ray…estimate around 50kg…It had swallow the hook deep inside…two barb was remove from it tail…
They try on two 40kg digital scale fail to weigh it…haha…I had to go to my mobile home to take a 50kg scale.
It hit 43kg on the scale….a new record for this year (2012) bedok jetty biggest…
Here is how heavy the fish is..he can’t even able to lift it up
