Dog Shark

Date: 22-06-2012     Time: 9.15pm     Rod: Shoreangler Big Game 10.2ft      Reel: Shimano Torium 20     Line: 30lbs braided with 50lbs mono     Rig: Long snood bottom feeder      Bait: Frozen cuttlefish(frozen for a year)

Went down late…so can’t jig for fresh bait fish. Just grab hold of three frozen cuttle fish which I had kept long ago. Two of which had been in the freezer for more than a year.

Reach there the wind was very strong coming from the south. Sea look choppy. Low tide was about to end. Set up my tackle and my squid catching item. Casted out a almost dry up cuttle fish as bait.

Tide turn up and the current was strong. Squid was rare and after two hour only caught three pieces. Around 8.30pm, as the current was at full swing, I wind back my line….bait gone…decide to wait awhile for the current to slow down….so hang up the rod.

9.05pm…On seeing the current slowing down a little, I re-bait with the year long cuttle fish and casted out. Ten minute later….my reel alarm go screaming…hoho…rod tip bend…I strike….YES….fish on….Ha….not so big le….Afraid that due to the the big bait….the hook might not set properly…haha….I strike another time…

It didn’t struggle much….Easily I wind in….it surface and I saw it was a dog shark…I lay down my rod and grab hold of my leader….I hand lift it up the jetty. It size should weigh around 2kg.
