With yesterday successful catch, I heading down this morning again arm with only two frozen kunning. As i know yesterday the bait was so lasting, I know chances are high.

Setup two sets of tackle and casted out. Follow by try jigging for any live bait. Got a live kunning and hook on a cable car rig and slight down on one set of tackle.

Very fast, a small little garfish come and take. Rod rattle but missed. Jig again…but part of tamban rig was cut off by a strong jerk. Haha…sinker gone…need to re-tie.

Before I able to tie another sinker, my other rod n reel alarm sounded. I pickup and strike….yup…FISH ON…It swim to my right along with the current flow….I can feel not very big. Then it surface…WOW!…back fin again….hahaha..I shouted for Yusof…who is at the mid part of jetty…”Auran Tasik”(cobia in malay)…

By now the fish already infront of the jetty…I had total control of it. Yusof come along with his friend scooping net. He want to scoop it instead of gaff. After few try….fish on jetty floor…haha…my first fish for year 2017. Smaller as compare with yesterday one…weigh 4.2kg.

Has been very long didnt fish day time at the jetty. As the squid season come to an end, I decided to do some day fishing. Today tide was good as it high at around 12pm. Looking at the weather, it show only afternoon than got rain. So I went to wet my line this morning.

Bait fish is hard to get. I jig quite long and none at all. A regular aunty there offer me a small selarpan as she use prawn meat to caught it. I take her offer and cast out my first set of tackle. I follow up using a cable car rig on the same tackle with a live tamban when i caught it.

Ten minute later, I saw my rod tip rattle…I strike the rod and wind in a small todak fish caught by the cable car rig. I gave the todak fish to some Bangala worker who were there as they don’t work on the last day of the year. The bottom bait on my rig was still intact so I cast it out again.

The weather now become clearer so i decided to set up my second set of tackle. While I was tying my long snood to the rig, I notice my line went slack. I pickup the rod and strike…heavy feeling at the end. Then a fish back fin appear on the water surface….Haha…this is the fish I had waiting for…Four years already….COBIA…It swim toward my right….I got worried as there is four rods n line over there. Sure to entangle as they didn’t keep their line. I use my rod to steer it back…Luckily…the fish turn and swim inward. I wind back as quick as possible to prevent it from going under the jetty. By the time it near the jetty I already in total control of the fish. Swallow hook…thats the best. I ask one guy to hold my rod as I set up my gaff. Maybe I am getting old or too “kancheong” as i missed two gaff before got it on the third time.

Fish on the jetty floor…time to celebrate…haha…I am so happy….Take picture and weigh..5kg…smaller as compare to my two previous catches…But….Satisfy…a catch before 2016 ended.

Tide was on the way up. Current flow was smooth. Bait was lasting. Ah Boi was talking to us he had long time didn’t landed any biggie as he now seldom fish due to family commitment. Then…suddenly we hear reel alarm sounded…..Yes…it was ah Boi reel…He ran over to strike….we are all very excited….as recently there is many biggie manage to escape after hookup due to many reason. I determined to help him bring this one up…This time round I get my gaff ready.

After some hard fight, the fish is giving way…After confirm that it was a stingray, I decide to use ah An gaff as it was bigger in size. One gaff and it was in. I decide to use another gaff to play safe to lift this heavy load up the jetty.

On landed, it was a long Tail brown stingray weigh 16.1kg. It is the biggest fish so far landed at jetty this year. It is also Ah Boi personal best in weight by surfcasting. The fish is later cut out to many parts and share among our friends.

Ah Joe hard work paid off….He first caught the 2.8kg Baramundi on a handline below the jetty. The fish took his live squid bait and run off below the jetty. Joe was fast enough to pull it out in time before the fish entangle with the jetty pillar. I used my squid net to scoop it up.

Before he settle down on the catch, his reel alarm sounded. He pick and strike….yes fish on….The fish gave him some fight before he gain control. Winding in was a nice n rare 2.6kg Gerut. I gaff it up.

Hookup this flat head when the tide start turning up. It took the bait n swallow deep. I only notice when I change bait. It is the third fish I caught within continue three night. Its around 500g and is a good size for this type of fishes.

Ah Boi continue his super lucky….another first cast catch….this time a leopard ray around 8kg.

Ah Boi caught this brown stingray this evening. He had just cast down the bait about ten minute earlier. The fish took his bait and scream his reel alarm. After some good fight, he manage to reel in the line. Ah An was there with the gaff ready. Estimate the fish is around 5-6kg.

As tonite high tide is early at around 8.30pm, after that the current is slow. So i decided to bring another rod to target the big barramundi below the jetty. Bait fish was very rare this afternoon. I started to jig around 4.30pm but only able to get a few. Among it was a small kambong fish. I decide to use it on a live bait cable car rig.

No taker even until 6.30pm. I decided to switch tactic. I change the position of the rod and also the rig to short snood bottom feeder. My target…the big barramundi below. Using the same live bait, I lower it down the jetty.

Around 8pm, I saw my 7ft rod rattle alittle. I decide to check, well… it turn up this flat head grab my live bait. As no more live bait and the current has die down, I call it a day.
