Went there yesterday night to catch squid n fishing. Stop at around 2am as the downtide current was too strong to fish n also squid was rare. Take some rest at my mobile home until this morning.
Headed in again at around 7am. Tide was just started to turn up. Current was slow n the sea was calm. Tamban was quite rare initially. Set up my tackle n casted out with bait balance last night. Bait was fast disappeared within five minute. The water look promising so I keep on changing bait every ten minute.
It paid off around 0930am. I just finish changing the bait n was sitting down to rest. I saw my line slacken alittle but didn’t bother thinking it was my sinker move by the current. Five minute later I saw more slack on the line…I take a closer look n it seem my line is moving slowly. Without hesitation…I pickup the rod n wind in the slacken line follow with a strike. Ohhh… yes…it heavyyyy….I make another pump….yessss,… it is a fish hookup…It dive downward taking some of my line….I pump again to bring it up…It follow up n was moving along with the current toward the right side. I follow n start winding back line….There is many rods on my right…I shouted to them to wind back their line but the reaction of this anglers was too slow…The fish now was very near to the surface but still can’t be spotted. It entangle many line along the way. In my mind I thought it was a cobia as it swim slowly n stay on the surface. At one stage it almost went below the jetty when I was waiting for other angler to bring their rod over to distangle it. But I didn’t gave chances.. I keep on winding n pumping to keep the fish in control. It surface finally n turn out to be a stingray. Hooo….at least not so bad. It could be a nightmare if it was a cobia…as it could easily go below the jetty with so many line entangle together.
A malay uncle come with his rope gaff n manage to gaff it easily. The spike was taken out immediately. I weigh it n it tip the scale at 10kg sharp. Haha.. after some photos taken…the sky started to rain…I cut the fish into five parts n gaven to those who has help me to landed it.
