Same as my usual friday night trip. Reach jetty around 7pm after some passing shower. Only a few angler around so lots of space to fish. Quickly setup my tackle as the tide is coming up. Current was fast and with a very strong southern surface wind blowing endlessly.
Bait casted out was quite lasting. Only need to change after few check. Around 11pm after catching some squid I notice my line has move to a 45% angle downtide. It look like it has hook on to some rubbish. I decide to check on it and pickup the rod to pump. Suddenly I feel a hard tug at the end of the line. With this I know I had hookup a fish and not rubbish. I wind back the line slowly. When it surface, it was a conger eel about 3kg. With the hook deeply set on the bottom jaw, I decide to use my rod to lift it up. Haha…Penn slammer rod really standup to it name for big game work without any problem. It take quite sometime for this fish to die before photo can be taken. I gave it to a father n son team as they want to try it out the taste.
