Todak

Date: 09-04-2017       Time: 1100 hrs      Rod: Penn Slammer 10.6ft white      Reel: Shimano Torium 20       Line: 30lbs braided with 50lbs mono leader      Rig: Cable car      Bait: Live tamban

Reach there is morning around 9am. The current flow started to change direction early as the down tide current was fast. Beginning the bait fish was rare but once the current start to move, it keep coming.

Set up two sets of tackles and with bottom and surface rig and cast out. No action at all  until 1100 am when I saw one of the rod tip rattle. I know it was a gar fish that take the bait and i waited until it jump of the water then I start winding back. A small little one and i use my rod to lift it up. The fish is given to a angler there who intend to eat it.

By the time I pack up around 1230 hrs as the current is too strong, this is the only fish landed.

Small Wolf Herring

Date: 03-04-2017      Time: 1835hrs      Rod: Loomis Frankling Big Game 12ft. Spinning     Reel: Silstar AT 80 spinning     Line: 30lbs braided      Rig: Cable car     Bait: Live Tamban

Went for a short trip this evening. When I cycle in to the jetty, a friend told me some wolf herring had been landed by anglers there this afternoon.

I quickly set up my tackles and cast out as only about one hours plus of day light left. I then jig some live bait and lower a cable car rig down.

Tide was going down at this hour and the current flow was smooth. I just finish my packet of dinner when I hear my reel screech. I saw my rod tip rattle but i didn’t strike as I thought it could be a gar fish taking the bait. If i strike too soon, the gar fish could have not swallow the bait and I will missed the fish.

I waited for a while then I saw a silver fish swimming just below the water surface. I know it had already hookup. I wind it in and it was a small wolf herring taking my bait before the day last light.

Tanjung Balau Fishing Jetty

Located on the north eastern side of Desaru Johor Malaysia. This place is where many off shore angler embark the fishing boat there for sea fishing around Desaru area. The sea around this jetty is very rocky. Chances of your line or hook getting snag is high. So a simple short snood bottom feeder is highly recommended. It quite shallow during low tide. You need to check and fish only during the high tide.

Gar fish

Date: 18-03-2017       Time:11.30am      Rod: Sea Hawk 12ft 3 pcs joint.      Reel: Daiwa 3000 spinning.       Line: 10lbs braided       Rig: Cable car      Bait: live Tamban

Went there around 9am. The sea was very choppy due to the strong eastern wind. Tide is coming up and the current was smooth. Bait fish have but have to cast far out to reach them. Manage to get enough for my own use.

I cast out three sets of tackle with two bottom bait and one live bait on surface. Bottom bait was lasting but just no fish bite. It still the live bait that work. Around 11.30am, this gar fish took the bait causing my rod tip to rattle. I waited until it swallow the hook and jump up the water surface before i strike and wind in. Easily using my rod to lift it up.IMG_20170318_115710_1489824617825

After this i use another live bait and lower it down again. Another gar took it and i caught another one.(no photo). I stop using this method after this as I don’t want keep getting this fish. Both fishes is given to and old uncle(wak) there. He quickly cut both fish up and went home.

Flat Head

Date: 10/03/2017     Time:21.00hrs     Rod: Penn Power surf 12ft.      Reel: Silstar AT 80 Spinning.      Line: 30lbs braided with 50lbs mono leader       Rig: Long snood bottom feeder  Bait: Fresh Tamban.

Caught this table size Flat Head when the tide was mid way up. It swallow the whole bait and the hook stuck in the throat. This fish the meat is as nice as grouper. I was told it was Australia number two prefer eating fish after the Queen fish.

Double Gar

Date: 25-02-2017      Time: 7.30am to 12pm.     Rod: Silstar Traverse X 12.6ft      Reel: Shimano Torium 20      Line: 30lbs braided with 50lbs mono leader     Rig: Cable car      Bait: Live tamban.

This morning high tide at 10.20am, so i started off early. Setup my two sets of tackles and start jigging for live bait. Only manage to get two. One i use as live bait on a cable car rig and another one by a bottom feeder.

Not long after this I got my first hit. a Gar fish took my live bait and run..cause my reel alarm to have a screech…I strike my rod and start winding back my line…the fish did a jump on the water surface. As it is not big, I just wind in and use my rod to lift it up.

garf20170225_091449

After this, the water current stop and totally can’t get any live bait fish. It was until the water change direction and start turning down then I manage to caught one.

Quickly rig it and lower it down. Within second…another Gar took the bait. Same it pull along the line and when dive deep. I waited until it pull hard again before I strike and start wind back my line. As usual, it make a jump out of the water surface. Easily I bring it in and lift it up with my rod. Double hit today on surface. but bottom zero as the bait below is not lasting.

Both fishes is given to two elder anglers there who told me they want to eat it.

Update 17 Feb

Hi everyone!

I wanted to share a quick update that I’ve been facing some challenges reviving shoreangler.8m.com and beachangler.8m.com due to technical issues.

While I have managed to move several years of content over, some of you may find that some of the pages that you enjoyed may not be available at the moment. I will continue to try my best to bring back as much of the cherished stories and photographs in the weeks to come.
In the meantime, I am excited to put together new information for this site. Do keep a look out for our updates and hope you’ll continue to enjoy them as much!

Two bait one fish

Date: 11-02-2017    Time: 0900 hrs     Rod: Penn Power stick 10ft.     Reel: Silstar AT80 spinning   Line: 30lbs braided with 50lbs mono leader      Rig: Cable car       Bait: Live tamban

Headed down to the jetty early this morning as the tide full at 11am. So it only a few hour left to try my luck. Water is mid way up n current is smooth. But to my surprise, bait fish is super rare. After twenty minute of jigging here n there….none at all. Then come  Sam…a regular tamban jigger. He caught two and pass it to me.
I quickly use a live one on a cable car rig and lower it on one set of tackle. The other tamban i cast it out on a bottom feeder rig with another set of tackle.

Continue on my bait jigging but still no catches. Then 9am…Sam shouted to me fish on…I turn around n saw my rod tip bent…line running out….then a fish jump out from the water surface…Haha…Queen fish… It then dive downward…taking more line…. I tighten more drag on the spool…then the fish swim inward…I wind back my line fast…until I feel tension again.
It leap out of the water once again…after this i manage to take control and surface it…another angler there come with a rope gaff and pull it up. It weigh 3.5kg.

Hattrick Catches 3 days in a row

Your might find it hard to believe…But it just happened.

Date: 02-01-2017     Time:10.15am     Rod: Penn Slammer 10.6ft White      Reel: Shimano Torium 20     Line: 30lbs braided with 50lbs mono     Rig: Long snood bottom feeder      Bait: Fresh Tamban

This morning weather is not very good. It had already drizzling since early morning. Look at Batam side is totally blur..cover with rain. But my temptation of going fishing is not lowered…only things is have to wait.

Almost 9am…on seeing the sky a bit clearer…I headed down prepare for the worst. Bring along just one set of tackle and one frozen tamban for the first cast. Start jigging and manage to get two…that all. Change my bait half n hour later…..

Then…around 10.15am….my reel alarm screech….I strike…FISH ON….again it swim with the current flow…then surface…Haha…same fish…but smaller…

Once infront of jetty, upon seeing the hook in the mouth, I use my rod to lift it up….haha…3 in three days.

Beside my catch…I saw two queenfish and a huge saitoh being caught by others angler.
