Twin(two) Queenfish n King size(some of the biggest caught at jetty)..Yes…ah An was a lucky man last night…The fish just love his bait..

The first one come around just pass mid night….the reel alarm go screaming…Ah Hong was the fastest to reach the rod…but he hesitate to strike…because it was not his rod…We had to shout for him to strike the rod as the alarm keep going…He strike but in a mess…first was the strike was not forcefull…due to he never thumb on the spool…follow by a birdnest of line in the reel…I shouted for him to lower the rod for me to hold the main fishing line as he untie the mess up line…but he didn’t..Luckily the fish was still in hook after he manage to free all the mess up…I told him to strike one more time to secure the hookup…The fish swim inward toward the jetty…after some struggle…it surface…I gaff it up and it was such a big queen fish…weighing 6.4kg…Wow! Tide was on the way up..

2am…suddenly i heard a thunder somewhere in the south west side…afraid that it might rain…I decided to stop catching squid…and I went to cut up the queen fish as no body want it…Half way through…Ah An reel alarm sound again…He went for it and strike…I had to stop the cutting and prepare his gaff…He fought the fish awhile before able to surface it…Well is is a queen fish again….I gaff it up and it weigh 6.3kg…Haha…both fish could be come from the same school of big queenie that swim pass the jetty and attracted by his fresh squid bait. End up I had to cut up two fishes..and alots of fish n chip to eat for days to come…

Chermin or Diamond Travelly

June 9, 2013

Ah An caught this diamond travelly using  cut prawn meat on a single hook short snood bottom feeder rig attached to a small spinning tackle set. The fish was so powerful that when it take the bait…it cause the small reel go screaming…luckily the rod was well secured…Else it may end up into the sea. The fish gave a good fight on the small tackle set…it dive deep downward a few time before An manage to surface it.

Grouper

Date: 24-05-2013     Time:10.40am      Rod: Penn Powerstick 10ft.      Reel: Shimano Torium 20      Line: 30lbs braided join with 50lbs leader      Rig: Long snood bottom feeder      Bait: Frozen tamban

It already 8am….full tide this morning was at 10.48am….so quickly I grab a packet of frozen tamban and headed down. Reach there Ah Chuan just caught a mangrove jack by handline…I setup and casted out…Follow by jigging fresh tamban..

The sky on the western side already very dark and the wind is coming from that direction…Its a matter of time the rain will arrive. After getting some tamban…I prepared to run…But at this time Ah An n Xio fan arrive…So I help to setup the canvas…now has to stay for the rain..

Very shortly rain arrived…hide below the canvas about fifteen minute and the rain pass…Change bait and went to jig for tamban again..When I back…I saw my line slack….I pickup the rod n strike…Yup..heavy at the end…then i feel got something struggling at the end…..I was thinking could it be a puffer fish….Slowly I wind back….it surface….Wow!…a nice size grouper…..I ask Ah An to grab my leader and haul it up…Estimate weight about 1.7kg..

7.5kg Brown Stingray

Date: 11-05-2013     Time: 2100hrs      Rod: ATC Premium Surf 13.6ft.     Reel: Daiwa Saltist 40      Line: 30lbs mono     Rig: Long snood bottom feeder      Bait: dead Tamban

K caught this stingray after some hard pump n puff.. His reel alarm went off when the tide was on the way up. Although there was a strong southern wind blowing….the current was smooth. The fish took the bait just after he had casted out. I gaff it up and it was a male ray.

He broke that long waiting Zero catch

Date: 30-04-2013      Time: 8.20pm      Rod: Replica Century Vectra 13.6ft      Reel: Shimano Trinidad A 30      Line: 30lbs mono      Rig: Long snood bottom feeder      Bait: Dead Tamban

Ah Hong fish almost every saturday night….but for the past one over year….he caught nothing…Fish that take his bait always ended up line snap or missed hook. It happened so many times that we had to label him with white foot base(bad luck). Some even ban him for striking their rod when a fish take the bait.Laughing

We know he is very desprate to hookup one to prove us wrong..haha…but it happen again n again until he himself lost confident….It show sign last night….

I went there early before they came. I manage to jig some tamban as bait before the sky turn dark.  Ah An come first before Hong. Tide was on the way down but current already slow down. We setup squid lamp to catch squid but was very rare.

It was around 8.20pm when the down tide was about end…We were chating when his reel alarm screech….He was just next to it and strike it….Yes…fish on…Me n An start to wind back our line to avoid entangle….Then Hong say the fish swim inward….I was fixing up the gaff when I can see he is worried….worried that the samething will happen again n loose the fish…So he ask me to take over….

I took over the rod and play the fish…leaving the fixing of gaff to ah An…I also order both of them to bring up our two squid lamps…reason is fishes are afraid of bright light….they will fight all out when U want to bring them to surface….

Without the squid lamp….I easily bring it to surface….As the water was low….It is not easy to gaff it as below the jetty is very dark….Ah An try few time but fail….Hong saw it and come over to hold the rod from me and I take over the gaffing job….I also missed a few gaff before I got it. It weigh 4.2kg after landed….

Ah Hong was so relief after this as he had finally break that fat zero and no more a white foot base…Laughing
