10.1kg Brown stingray

DATE : 01-08-2008    TIME: 10.00pm      ROD: Zzipplex XTR 12.6ft     REEL: Shimano Torium 16     LINE: 25lbs mono      RIG: Long snood bottom feeder      BAIT: Fresh Squid.

White landed this ray when the tide is about to full. Infact before he started to set up his gear, I had told them that tonight we stand a chance to caught a fish as the current and tide is good but don’t know wjich rod the fish choose to take. Eventually it decide to take White bait. Again this fish has beat the previous biggest fish and biggest ray record for this year. Awhile later Samad also caught a giant herring around 1kg.

Longest “Eel”

Haha…caught this longest “eel” from the jetty few night ago. Manage to pump up this 20 feet long bamboo pole from the sea. It got entangle with my line. Lucky my rod n line is strong enough to bring it close to the jetty before I use my hand to lift it up. Estimate it weight more than 30 kg. Think its a record in term of it lenght caught by any landbase angler. haha.

One Night Two Rays

Tide has full and started to turn down. My Penn Powergraph Surf rod pair with a Penn 113HLW reel was the first to go. The alarm sounded and the line gone loose. Seng was the first to reach the rod and he strike. I took over and the fish was taken out line. After awhile I feel the fish was surfacing up. I thought it was a cobia and was more carefull. But after awhile I manage to saw the fish and it was a small ray. It was wash up by the current flow. I wind it in and use my hand to pull it up. Estimate it weight around 2kg. One guy walk over and ask me to sell it to him. Haha.. I was lazy to cut so I ask him to offer me a price. After some thinking he offer ten dollar… I took a plastic bag and pack it up for him…hehe…

Fifteen minute later…Jerry Zipplex M4 rod pair with a Daiwa LD50 reel alarm was screaming. Finally this virgin rod open account. Again Seng was the first to strike. Jerry was a bit slow in reaction. He took over and the fish was taking line out. He gave a few pump on the rod when the fish stop. After awhile the fish was already on the water surface. I gaff it up and it weight 9.2kg. It has set this year bedok jetty up todate biggest fish and biggest ray landed record. He was shy to take a photo on his catch so I taken on his behalf.

Hong was so lucky last night. He hookup this gerut during the downtide fast current flow. It took the small fresh squid which I have caught earlier. The fish weight was 1.5kg. It was lifted up by his rod as the water was high.

Before I reach the jetty, Hon already call me to inform that Xiao Hei had just lost a 5-6kg leopard ray when trying to lift the fish up as they has no gaff to do the job. How they wish I was there earlier.

It was quite crowded tonight at the jetty. Manage to squeeze in a place for my rod to be casted out. Tide was coming up smoothly. By 10pm, the current started to change direction and move faster. A reel alarm sounded and it was PC 11ft kunnan boat master rod. He strike hard and easily wind in a big barracuda with his Daiwa Saltist 30 reel. Hoho…this fish tip the scale at 4kg.

An hour later it was LK turn. He saw his 11ft Kunnan boat master rod tip shake and take no chance. Quietly winding in a 1.9kg barracuda and lifted it up with the rod.

After this the current was at full flow and even size 7 sinker can’t hold bottom. On seeing this condition, everybody start to packup.

I Just Strike

Date: 14-07-2007    Time: 1220pm    Rod: Asahi power cast 12ft.    Reel: Penn 320GTI    Line: 30lbs mono    Rig: Cable car     Bait: Live herring(tamban)

Has been fishing since morning. Casted out about 20 tamban as bait ended with no action. Started to packup as the sun is getting very hot. Suddenly, uncle Sani rod alarm went off. Zzzzzz…Zzzzzz…..Zzzzzz….I look around but can’t find him…He was far away jigging for tamban. Everybody shouting at him but his reaction was slow. haha… I saw that and rush forward to pickup the rod and strike. Hoho…it jump up the surface far away and can’t see clearly..Queenfish was in my mind. It dive downward again. Halfway during the fight I feel something not right. This fish the speed is terrible fast. It gave very short dash with lightning speed here and there. At one point it almost went below the jetty as it has entangle a few line along the way and I have difficulty in winding back the line. But I keep putting pressure on it and manage to hold it well. It finally tired out and surface….WOW!…a big spainish mackeral…no wonder the speed of cutting water so fast. It was easily gaff and lift up. Hoho…It hit the scale at 4.3kg.
