Date: 05-07-2019 Time: 2125hrs-2200hrs Rod: Penn Slammer 10.6ft Reel: Daiwa Saltist 40 Rig: Long Snood bottom feeder Bait: Fresh herring
Had not been fishing for the past four week. Tonight trip is the first after the long rest. Went there late in the evening so missed out the last light to jig for fresh bait. Luckily my friend Simon was there and he got extra to spare me.
Set up one set of tackle and cast out. Tide is moving up and the water is very choppy due to the southern wind blowing endlessly. This had badly affected the surface of squid. None had been spotted. Bait casted out is not lasting. So i had to change it often.
Around 2125hrs, during changing bait that I notice a small barracuda was at the end of the line. It was almost dead when i lift it up.
2200hrs, I was talking to friends then suddenly my reel alarm sounded. I pickup the rod and strike. The fish put up a initial fight but quickly lost and swim toward my direction. I wind back as fast as possible and just enough time to surface it when it reach below the jetty. A long tail male stingray around 4-5kg. My friend help to hold the rod and I gaff it up.
Thanks. My trip report written are all base on what i can remember on what happening during the hookup.
